The Hamilton and District Labour Council will award five $1000 scholarships for students entering the first year of post-secondary studies at a university, college, or trade school in September 2015 and two $1000 scholarships for students enrolled in the second year or beyond of an undergraduate university or college program.
The scholarship is open to students whose parent or recognized guardian is a member of a union affiliated to the Hamilton and District Labour Council.
Applicants must submit a prescribed information form and a copy of the letter of admission from the school or program for first year applicants, or, for students beyond first year, proof of continued enrolment (e.g. confirmation of course registration for the 2016-17 academic year).
All applicants must submit a 500-word essay, typed and double-spaced, on one of the following topics:
Describe the struggles of workers in Hamilton in 1946 and explain their continuing significance.
or
Describe the struggle of workers in Chicago in 1886 and explain their continuing significance.
