Recipients of 2017 Scholarships Announced


At the Delegates' Meeting on November 16, 2017, the selection committee announced the recipients of the 2017 Hamilton and District Labour Council Scholarhsips.

The Labour Council awarded three scholarships in 2017: two for students entering the first year of an undergraduate post-secondary (or equivalent) program of studies, and one for a student in the second to fourth year of an undergraduate post-secondary program (or equivalent). Eligible students were children of members of local unions affiliated to the Hamilton and District Labour Council. Applicants were required to submit an essay assessing the impact of the $15 and Fairness campaign on the labour movement and on young workers entering the labour force today and in the future.

Recipients of Entrance Scholarships

Vanessa Nicole DiLuca

DiLuca is a first year student in Concurrent Education at Brock University. Both of her parents are union members: her father, Robert, is a member of IUOE Local 772 and her mother, Leslie, is a member of OPSEU Local 206.

Benjamin Koon-Kit Fok

Fok is a first year student at McMaster University studying Health Sciences. His mother, Molly Lee, is a member of Unifor Local 87-M.

Recipient of Scholarship for a Returning Student (Year 2 & above)

Joshua R. DiLuca

DiLuca is studying Honours Criminology at Wilfrid Laurier University. His parents, Robert and Leslie, are members of IUOE Local 772 and OPSEU Local 206 respectively.
