2018 Labour Day Information & Parade route

HDLC 130 Labour Day Information

Labour Day is Monday, September 3th.

On its 130th anniversary, The Hamilton and District Labour Council is pleased to host the annual Labour Day Parade and

Picnic in honour of workers and their unions. Join the celebration...and the struggle!

So, what's new?

There will be a porta‐potty on Stuart St. and Caroline for those who have to line up down that side of Stuart St. before the parade starts. If other restrooms are needed en route, we're recommending the facilities in the Macnab Street Terminal (where the busses gather downtown) and Jackson Square (James Street entrances) which we've learned will be open during the parade.

There will be a Quench Buggy water refill station/fountain on site for those who wish to refill water bottles of get a drinkof water during the picnic.

Advance tickets for food/soft drinks will NOT be sold before the picnic. If you'd like tickets for your members once theyget to the park, send a member of your Executive over to sign for the number of tickets you'd like and we'll give them to you at that time and invoice you later. We trust your local is good for it!

What's the same?

The parade route. The parade starts at its traditional time‐‐10:30 am. Unions and solidarity groups line up on Stuart St

and head south on Bay St to Main St, east on Main St to James St, north on James St to Strachan St, west on Strachan to Harbour Front Drive and into Bay Front Park.

The BBQ/picnic and entertainment following the parade takes place at BAY FRONT PARK.

The parade steps off at 10:30 am.

BBQ / picnic sites will be determined and the locations distributed in the near future. Contact the Labour Council at

hdlc@cogeco.net to confirm that your group wants a site. The HDLC is charging a $50 fee green/clean up fee per local

for the additional costs of recycling and waste management of garbage at the park.

If your local plans on having a BBQ at its own site, the City's regulations have changed regarding the permitting, fees and requirements. Please get in touch with Labour Council for advice and guidance in being compliant.

The United Way will BBQ hamburgers and hotdogs, available for a reasonable price. Beer will be sold for consumptionwithin a licensed area.

Entertainment will be provided by the Andre Bisson R&B Band, members of HMG293.

If you have members who would like to volunteer with set up (Sunday), tear down (Monday) or as a marshall during the parade, let us know!

Check our website, hamiltonlabour.ca, for further developments.

To register for the parade or to reserve a spot in the park for a picnic or bbq, call 905-547-2944 x23 or email hdlc@cogeo.net.
