2018 HDLC Scholarships: receiving applications until October 30th

The HDLC will award three scholarships of $1000 each for the 2018-19 academic term –– two for applicants entering the first year of a post-secondary education or equivalent and one for applicants in the second to final year of an initial post-secondary program or equivalent. 

Eligibility is open to students whose parent or legal guardian is a member of a union local affiliated to the Hamilton and District Labour Council.

Applicants are required to submit the prescribed application form and proof of acceptance/ registration into a university or college.

Applicants are required to submit an essay, up to 750 words in length, on the life of an individual active in the labour movement in Hamilton prior to 1950. Provide a biographical sketch and an assessment of their contribution to the development of the movement.

Essays must be typed using a 12 pt font (minimum), double spaced, on 8 1/2" x 11" paper. References are required when using quotations or ideas from sources. To assist with the blind assessment process, applicants are asked not to include their name on any page of the essay. It can be included on a removable title page and a reference to the title or subject of the essay can be added to the application form. 

A previous recipient of an HDLC scholarship may apply in subsequent years, but is limited to two awards in total.
