Hamilton and District Labour Council Announces Endorsements for Upcoming Provincial Election

Hamilton, ON – [31 January 2025]

The Hamilton and District Labour Council (HDLC) is pleased to announce its endorsements for the upcoming Provincial Election on February 27, 2025. The HDLC, representing workers and unions across the city, is committed to supporting candidates who champion labour rights, social justice, and the interests of working-class Hamiltonians.

The Council is proud to endorse the following candidates:

  • Sarah Jama (Independent) – Hamilton Centre
Sarah Jama, the incumbent MPP, has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to labour and social justice causes over the past decade. Whether as an Independent or a member of a party, she has consistently stood in solidarity with the Council and the broader labour movement.
  • Zaigham Butt (Ontario NDP) – Hamilton East–Stoney Creek
As the local President of the Hamilton federal workers of PIPSC (Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada), Zaigham Butt has spent years fostering strong relationships within the labour community. His advocacy for workers’ rights and collective bargaining makes him a strong choice for the riding.
  • Kojo Damptey (Ontario NDP) – Hamilton Mountain
A dedicated advocate for working-class issues, Kojo Damptey has been a steadfast ally to the labour movement in Hamilton for many years. His leadership and commitment to social and economic justice will make him a powerful voice at Queen’s Park.

As many ridings are still in the process of selecting candidates and finalizing campaign strategies, these are the endorsements approved at this time. The HDLC will consider additional requests for endorsement at its next regular meeting on February 20, 2025.

In the coming days, the HDLC will outline the key priorities that it believes Hamilton’s elected MPPs should champion to build a fairer, more just, and prosperous city and province for all.
